All Le Sueur-Henderson School issued devices have built-in filtering software blocking access to inappropriate sites regardless of whether the device is at school or off campus. However, children often have complete, unrestricted access to inappropriate sites on other devices such as home computers and personal cell phones. Experts strongly suggest installing software to filter and block inappropriate content on your wireless home network.

Filters can be set to block Internet access completely or block certain sites like pornography, social media, and gaming. Further, filters allow a parent to completely control when access is open/closed to such sites. These same tools allow parents to control any wireless device, whether it is a laptop, a smartphone with a web browser, an iPod touch, and more. Without any filtering software at home, a user can get to any site on any device, including a desktop computer.

Some possible filters to consider include:

OpenDNS

A popular, free internet filtering service. When you set up OpenDNS Home on your router, your settings take effect across everything on your home network. In addition to computers, this includes your kids’ Xbox, Playstation, Wii, DS, iPad, and even their iPhone.

Windows Family Safety

Windows 10 Family Safety helps you set limits on your child's PC time, as well as the websites, apps, and games they can use (and when). To set up Family Safety, you'll need to sign in with an administrator account. Family Safety is turned on automatically if you create a child's account.

Mac Parental Controls

You can use Parental Controls in a Mac to help prevent user accounts from accessing inappropriate content on Internet websites. The Internet content filter is built into the core of the operating system, allowing it to filter Internet access regardless of which Web browser is used.
